The Machine Shop is one of the oldest and most prominent buildings in the mill complex, and it features refurbished doors and windows, rustic wood floors, exposed wood ceilings, and wide open spaces. We are in the process of carefully upfitting the space to include all the modern amenities without disrupting its historic charm. The building is in the center of Glencoe Village with the mill houses on one side and the industrial mill buildings on the other. In addition, it is within walking distance of the Great Bend County Park and is on the Haw River Trail.
If you've always wanted to live or work in an old and interesting building, this one is worth a look!
We custom design the space to accomdate your needs, whether that is all or part of the Machine Shop. Contact us if you're interested in seeing the Machine Shop and discussing your possible space needs.
This photo was taken in the 1970s when the attached auto shed was still standing. The auto shed was torn down in the intervening years, but we think it would make a fine conference room if it was rebuilt.
The Machine Shop was built in 1882, during Glencoe Mill's first building phase. It is a two story building made with oversized bricks.
We have recently repaired and restored the Machine Shop doors. Previous Glencoe Mill employees used the door as a homemade dartboard, and we went to some lengths to save this quirky bit of history.
When Hedgehog Holdings took ownership of the Mill buildings, we found many spaces still had the remnants of Glencoe Mill's business. The upstairs of the Machine Shop was filled with shelves and bins, and those were filled with bits and parts. We have since cleaned out the space.
We opened the building to the public and let them take away whatever artifacts they wanted. What a difference!
We have recently repaired the windows and doors, and it would take very little to get this building ready for use!
The old sash windows have been repaired and reglazed.
The original doors have also been repaired and reinstalled. We're always looking for ways to keep as much of the original building as we can.
Lately, we've had the pleasure of hosting a couple art shows at the Machine Shop. Its industrial modern interior lends itself well to interesting uses.
The old wood windows, recently refurbished, let in lot of light, making this a bright and welcoming space.
